Medicine, cuisine, travel, voluntary simplicity, and helping others are my specialties! Some of my other interests include fat activism, Canadian immigration, music, feminism, and healthy sexuality.
Originally from Portland, Oregon, I moved to Toronto, Ontario in June of 2010 and am now studying for my Master of Public Health at Capella University while waiting to become a Permanent Resident of Canada. Since arriving in Canada, I have been to Newfoundland several times, as my partner's family lives in St. John's. My partner is in film school in Toronto, studying to become a film editor. We have quickly become the experts on dorm cuisine - we cook nearly all our dinners in a little 3-cup rice cooker! We are firm believers in voluntary simplicity; in April we are looking to move into a studio apartment with as little furniture and belongings as possible, as his work may require us to travel and/or move frequently.
I absolutely love to write, which is a good thing since my MPH program requires a lot of it. Researching and collecting findings is very exciting to me, and I love sharing my perspective on things. I wrote for my college newspaper for two terms, and worked as the newspaper's copy editor for two years. I have written academic papers on everything from combating local hunger by starting community gardens to improving LGBT people's access to healthcare.
